How to Measure Your Pet for a Bed

The fit notebook / 01

The most useful bed measurement starts with a normal nap. Your pet’s favorite resting shape tells you more than a breed-size label, and a few notes help you compare beds without guessing.

1. Observe before measuring.

Watch a few resting moments. A dog may begin curled up and later stretch onto one side. A cat may favor a compact circle but still need room to turn around. Choose a footprint that accommodates the positions you see regularly, not just the smallest one.

2. Measure the resting outline.

Use a flexible tape beside your pet rather than disturbing them. Note the longest resting length and widest point. Include extended paws if that is how they commonly rest. For a curled sleeper, measure the broadest part of the circle. Write the measurements down with the position you measured.

Allow space to turn and shift. There is no single extra allowance that suits every bed or pet; a thick bolster and an open mat use their outer footprint differently. If your pet falls between two sizes, compare the next size up with the room you have available.

3. Separate outside and inside.

A 75 cm-wide bed does not necessarily have a 75 cm-wide sleeping area. Bolsters, seams and tent walls occupy space. Use inner dimensions when provided, and treat unqualified measurements as exterior dimensions. Never substitute the package dimensions for the assembled product size.

For a covered bed, also check entrance size and height. For a raised bed, compare the full frame width, resting fabric area and step-up height. Do not infer a load limit from a picture or an overall dimension.

4. Map the floor.

Mark the bed’s exterior footprint with removable tape or a sheet of paper. Check that doors still open, furniture has clearance and people can pass without stepping over the bed. Place a covered entrance toward a clear route, and put a raised frame on a stable, level surface.

5. Compare the selected option.

Read the exact size or color-and-size option before adding it to your bag. Size letters are not standardized across the collection. To convert centimeters to inches, divide by 2.54; for example, 60 cm is about 23.6 inches. Small measurement differences may occur in soft goods.

A useful final check.

Before ordering, you should know your pet’s resting outline, the bed’s exterior footprint and whether its usable space is clear. If a needed measurement is absent, contact us with the bed name and the dimension you need. We prefer a careful choice to a size assumption.
