Find the Right Fit

A measuring note before the nap

Choose for the pet in front of you. Breed names and weight suggestions cannot tell you how much space your companion needs when they stretch, turn or curl up.

Compare your pet’s resting length with the usable bed area and the full outer footprint

Start with a relaxed pet.

  1. Watch where and how they normally settle. Measure while they are resting naturally, without making them hold a pose.
  2. Measure their full resting length and the widest part of their resting shape. For a stretcher, include the extended legs; for a curler, measure across the curled body.
  3. Compare those measurements with the usable resting surface. Leave room for movement rather than choosing an exact squeeze.
  4. Mark the bed’s complete exterior footprint on the floor. Check door swings, furniture legs and everyday walking routes.

Outer size is not sleeping size.

Bolsters, padding and tent walls take up some of the stated footprint. Unless a listing specifically gives internal dimensions, treat its size as external. For a covered bed, consider entrance width and headroom as well as floor area. If these are not listed and the fit could be close, contact us before you choose.

Read the selected option.

A size letter is meaningful only within that particular bed. A large mat and a large tent may have very different dimensions. Read the option name and the details table together. Dimensions in centimeters can be converted to inches by dividing by 2.54.

Structure What to compare
Flat mat Resting length and width against the open surface.
Bolster bed Usable inner area and the full rim-to-rim footprint.
Covered bed Inner space, entrance and overhead clearance.
Raised bed Fabric resting area, full frame footprint and step-up height.

Do not use package or shipping measurements as bed dimensions. If a listing does not give a measurement you need, ask us.
